Admission to Ph.D. Programme National Institute of Immunology (NII)

  Admission to Ph.D. Programme  for  the Academic Year  2011- 2012
National Institute of Immunology (NII) invites applications for its Ph.D. programme.  Cutting-edge research at the Institute encompasses broad interdisciplinary areas -
1) Chemical Biology 2) Genetics & Cell Signaling 3) Immunity & Infection 4) Molecular & Cellular Biology 5) Reproduction & Development  6) Structural & Computational Biology.
Minimum qualifications:
  1. M.Sc. in any branch of Science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics)  or M.Tech. or M.B.B.S. or M.V.Sc. or M.Pharm. or equivalent qualification recognized by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, is required.
  2. First   Division   or  equivalent  grade  or at least  60%  of aggregate scores in all major examinations  from Senior Secondary Certificate (10+2)  onwards is required.
  3. Candidates appearing  for the  qualifying  examination  this year may also  apply; they  will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory fulfillment of the above requirements at the time of joining.
  4.  Reservations are as  per  statutory norms.
Selection procedure :
  1. Candidates fulfilling minimum requirements will be invited for a written qualifying test at their own expenses on February 12, 2011 at  any  of the following four centers - Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, & Kolkata.  The Institute shall try to accommodate the choice of centers indicated by the candidate. However, in case of non-availability of  a seat at the centers chosen by the candidate,  the candidate shall be required to appear for the written qualifying test at the centre allotted by the Institute.
  2.  The written test is aimed at evaluating abilities to comprehend, analyse and reason.  Therefore, the examination is General Aptitude Test &  no separate syllabus is prescribed.
  3. The results of the written test along with the details of the interviews shall be available  on the website of the Institute as well as on the Notice Board of the Institute on  February 22, 2011.
  4. Interviews will be held at National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi from June 2-5, 2011.  The Interviews will be held in two stages.   The candidates will be short-listed for the final interview based on their performance in the first interview. Final interview will be held in the last two days.
  5. The selected candidates would be paid second class train fare for joining the Ph.D. programme  on providing the proof of journey.
  6. Candidates selected after the interviews will be enrolled for the Ph.D. programme of NII  in academic affiliation with JNU, New Delhi.

b) Selection Procedure:
WALK-IN DATE: 20th & 21st November, 2010 (Two days).
WALK IN REGISTRATION TIME : 0800 hours to 1230 hours.

a) Qualification
Graduate in any discipline (minimum three years duration) from a recognised university with ability to speak English fluently and conversant with basic computer operation.


b) Selection Procedure:
WALK-IN DATE: 10th to 13th November, 2010 (Total four days).
WALK IN REGISTRATION TIME : 0800 hours to 1230 hours.

10 rules for Good Government

The Buddha once said: 
"When the ruler of a country is just and good,the ministers become just and good,when the ministers are just and good,the higher officials become just and good,when the higher officials are just and good,the rank and file become just and good,when the rank and file become just and good,the people become just and good."

In the JATAKA stories,the Buddha gave 10 rules for Good Government,known as Dasa Raja Dharma .These ten rules can be applied even today by any government which wishes to rule the country peacefully.According to these rules a ruler must:

1.Be liberal and avoid selfishness,

2. Maintain a high moral character,

3. Be prepared to sacrifice his own pleasure for the well being of the subjects,

4. Be honest and maintain absolute integrity,

5. Be kind and gentle,

6. Lead a simple life for the subjects to emulate,

7. Be free from hatred of any kind,

8. Exercise non violence,

9. Practise patience,

10. Respect public opinion to promote peace and harmony.

Regarding the behaviour of rulers, He further advised:

1. A good ruler should act impartially and should not be biased and discriminate between one particular group of subjects against another.

2. A good ruler should not harbour any form of hatred against any of his subjects.

3. A good ruler should show no fear whatsoever in the enforcement of the law,if it is justifiable.

4. A good ruler must possess a clear understanding of the law to be enforced.It should not be enforced just because the ruler has the authority to enforce the law.It must be done in a reasonable manner and with common sense.

State Government Scholarship

The objective of the Scheme is to provide financial assistance to the poor and meritorious students belonging to minority communities to enable them to pursue professional and technical courses.


These scholarships are available for studies in India only and will be awarded through an Agency designated by the State Government/UT Administration for this purpose.


21,748 StateScholarship will be distributed among the students of minority communities throughout the State.



Important Instructions:

  • Date for Submission of State Government Scholarship form is extended upto 8 March 2010.
  • Candidates pursing courses ( BA, B.Com., B. Sc, LLB, B.Ed etc and PG courses ) under Higher Education should download the application form, fill it completely, attach required documents and submit to respective Institute by 8th March 2010 which are to forward it to Joint Director office of Higher Education.
  • For State Government Scholarships for Minority communities, the candidate can give affidavit on Rs. 10/- Court Fee Stamp/ Revenue Stamp also.

The Candidates are advised to fill the online application form so that they shall be able to authorities, get the status of their application, etc. If the candidate is not having the facility of filling the form, it shall be provided by the institute.
